The South by Southwest (SXSW) festival is heading to Sydney in 2023. It is the first time this historic event will head overseas and to celebrate this special occasion, we were briefed to create a “hype” film to build excitement at the launch event in front of government attendees and media.
I was fortunate to work on the SXSW Sydney Announcement film. Which was played at a press-release event to state media. I was lucky to co-direct, design and animate this piece alongside Danny Stern.
The festival will be centered around the key pillars of Screen, Music, Technology, Gaming and Conferences. We designed each scene in its own unique style to reference a specific pillar.

Some scenes from our storyboard. In the end we had 36 unique shots in a 30s film. Here are the frames from the film that I either animated or designed. We chose a mix media style unified by a colour palette to emphasize the depth and diversity of this event.
