shibamata
Monday, May 25th, 2009If I were to make a list of areas in Tokyo that I enjoy photographing, Shibamata would easily be within my top 10.

The pictures
Saturday, May 23rd, 2009Issey Miyake and a student fashion show. Just 3 things I want to share from 3 of the pictures below that I like.
- Picture 2, the girl in the foreground, didn’t realise at the time, but in the picture her hair is parted in such a way that there is confusion whether she is facing them or the camera (with hair in her face).
- Picture 3, the alignment and odd sense of scale.
- Picture 4, the man on the right just happenly aligned with the person behind, and their mouths have just merged.
I’m currently liking photographs where you need to look a little more in detail and you find other elements which create a strange sense of suprise, or unease.

More Holga
Wednesday, May 20th, 2009Developed two rolls of holga the other night by taping two rolls together to fit onto the one plastic reel. Seemed to work fine, and i think i’ll do this from now one for Medium format. Happy now i can do double the quantity in the same time.
Honestly i should try shoot it more, as results to date have been mixed and sporadic for me to date, but i think i finally got a grip on the holga from the last two rolls.

Thursday, May 14th, 2009The nerdy side of me has gotten to me. I usually don’t care much about these things, but out of curiousity i thought i might share. It’s really the first time i’ve used a Medium format camera (not including the holga) and I’m amazed at the quality of medium format and the rolleiflex. For a camera that is at least 50 years old and not in the greatest of conditions, it still works perfectly and the detail is superb.
From one of the images in the post below, shot on tmax400 and pushed to 1600, i’ve scanned the neg on my old flatbed it at some crazy high resolution, and the posters on the back wall are pretty much readable. I think if it were professionally drum-scanned or printed huge, it would be a lot clearer.
(*note: the posters in the neg and arrows to the blown up are mixed up, ahahah…thats what you get when you don’t double check.)
6×6
Wednesday, May 13th, 2009Square format is interesting. I’ve been lucky to have been lent a funky rolleiflex TLR, and i ended up shooting him at a local fencing practice. It felt like trying to write with my left hand. (I’m right handed). Things are backwards and looking down all the time changes your sense of space.
